soon we will be leaving home to drive around the whole country in a gianormous rectangle. boston to seattle to san diego to jacksonville to boston, with stops along the way.
we have this luxury thanks to homeschooling. since there are a plethora of ideas of homeschooling, and far more ways to practice it, maybe i should explain the way we homeschool. briefly. we follow a learner-led model for a variety of pedagogical reasons. the kids take classes in their passions. we find books, videos, tutors, websites, etc., also based on their interests. and my interests, too. at least sometimes. :) their interests are varied and deep enough that we cover plenty from all of the traditional academic categories. this trip, while being my idea, is part of that. we will be visiting zoos, aquariums and nature reserves around the country for my little naturalist, and music, craft and contemporary art all over for my creator. also all things spooky for the october-child, and dinosaurs for both. for me, the history/culture geek, we'll visit museums and sites that explore diverse american experiences. all in all it should be fun.
